I‘m convinced that the Outer Banks is the best place to raise a family. We seem to have this perfect pocket of beautiful beaches that meet rustic farmland and I know that I’m not the only one that feels incredibly fortunate to live here.
Yesterday, I took our youngest to the beach to fly a kite and search for seaglass and today we headed across the Wright Memorial Bridge to pick strawberries with her Grandma. I’m telling you, we have the best of both worlds here on the Outer Banks!
The beautiful fields are located right in Point Harbor, less than half a mile from the end of the bridge. You’ll see the sign on the right hand side and a dirt road just beyond the large sign.
Follow the dirt road back until you see a small shed and the smiling faces of Mr. and Mrs. Malco, who have been growing the fresh strawberries since 1979.
Eloise seemed to remember doing this from last year, but luckily she was able to control her sweet little self a tiny bit better than she did last year. We ended up slipping an extra $5 to the farmer last year to cover the cost of the berries that she ate while she picked!
Strawberry pickin’ is $2.50 a pound and they ask you to bring your own container to take your berries home. Also, keep in mind that they accept cash only, so you’ll need to hit the ATM before you head across the bridge.
Picking Hours: Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Noon to 4 p.m. Don’t miss this amazing local treat. It’s the perfect family day, charming date spot or place to find a little bit of peace. We plan to head back a few more times this season with the rest of our crew.
