Taste of the Beach, Family Style!

Foodies unite, the 2019 Outer Banks Taste of the Beach weekend is almost here!

My family and I are pretty excited for this year’s Taste of the Beach lineup! Have you ever attended this epic week of food and fun on the Outer Banks? Every event on the schedule sounds amazing and we’re so excited to kick it all off on March 29 at 5 p.m. at the Soundside Event Site in Nags Head.

Live music from Jeremy Russell will start things off, followed by the movie, “Ratatouille,” under the stars. Be sure to bring a beach chair to relax on the lawn!

This family-friendly event is a great way to incorporate the kids into Taste of the Beach festivities. We’re planning to grab dinner from one of the local businesses that will be serving up some specialties before enjoying the outdoor movie with the kiddos.

Most of all, I love that this event is largely focused on providing for the Beach Food Pantry. Admission is FREE with the donation of a canned good. Some of our favorite restaurants will be there and we know the kids are excited for the FroYo on the Go truck.

There are many awesome activities — the tapas crawls, cooking classes, beer yoga and even three- course fine dining. But don’t let the long list of events stop you from grabbing your tickets soon because some events are already beginning to sell out.

This event brings folks from all over the country and truly is the kickoff to the Outer Banks Spring season. With so many restaurants hosting events, it’s a great way to squeeze in a mini-vacation to the Outer Banks.

We’ve already grabbed our tickets for the 7th Annual BBQ and Wings Showdown on March 30. We love that the kids (under 12) are admitted free and they can sample BBQ to their hearts’ content. This event allows us to taste BBQ creations from several area restaurants with just one ticket. That’s a win in my book for sure!

There are a couple of my Outer Banks Mom Approved restaurants competing at this event, so in the spirit of healthy competition, we’re excited to see what they come up with.

I’m working on lining up a babysitter for the Dinner Pairing at Jack Brown’s because Ocracoke’s 1718 Brewing will be bringing their beer to pair with dinner at Jack Brown’s and I’m stoked about it. I’m a little bit of an Ocracoke fanatic, so getting to have a true taste of our favorite island is a treat for those of us here in the “big city.”

I’m crossing my fingers that they bring my favorite brew, “Pretty Work.” While it’s worth the trip to Ocracoke to indulge in one, I’m excited that they’re making the journey here to Kill Devil Hills!

One of my favorite events during the Taste of the Beach week each year is the Chef’s Grand Tasting and Bartender Bubbly Bash. I’ve attended this event several times and every year I am so impressed by how smoothly it runs and how much fun I have. I love the bartender competition for best bubbly cocktail creation and getting to taste what so many different restaurants cook up is clearly one of our favorite things! This event caps off the Taste of the Beach festivities each year and I always try to make it a girls day out.

Awards are presented for Chef’s Choice and People’s Choice before the event concludes! You can get your tickets to the Grand Tasting and see a full list of the 2019 Taste of the Beach events by clicking here.
