When I was a kid we would go on vacation and come home to a full mailbox and a full voicemail on our home phone. It was mostly junk mail and voicemails reminding us about a doctors appointment or a haircut in the upcoming weeks. When I was a teenager and email and cell phones were more accessible, I vividly remember being on the Disney Cruise and trying to check my email for 50 cents per minute just to see if my best friends had emailed me anything "important.” News flash, th
Saturday’s on the Outer Banks are my favorite. Not because they are typically filled with family and friends or because I have a little more time “off” than the other days of the week, though those reasons are great in their own right! But because OBX Saturday’s are CHECK IN DAY!
That means that 120,000+ people are coming to our beaches for a week of hard earned relaxation and priceless memories. I love people watching on the beach as families park their cars because they’re
Yesterday we had a first look at Jumpmasters Trampoline Park in Manteo. Since the announcement of the business a few months ago, my kids have been so excited! Truth be told, I’ve been super excited too! For me, it’s hard to find something that all of my kids are excited about because with a toddler, a kindergartener and a high-schooler, it’s usually a losing battle to find common ground. With Jumpmasters, we have a winner! I cannot wait to start planning playdates at the tram
We’re carrying on "The Week of the Dad" here on the Outer Banks! I don’t know about you but sometimes it is so hard to think of a great gift for my husband for Father's Day. I can come up with tons of good ideas but I am always looking for a gift that is going to keep on giving and this year I found the PERFECT thing, a brand new Nags Head Hammock! Recently we put a deck onto the back of our home and we are absolutely loving the outdoor space. We anticipated buying deck furni
With Father’s Day just around the corner, we’re dubbing this the Week of the Dad here on the Outer Banks! So I surveyed the best Dad that I know, Mr. Outer Banks Dad himself. I asked him what he wanted to do the most for Father’s Day and his answers were simple; beach time, a great lunch somewhere that we’ve never been before and time to just relax at home. Done, done and done! Since we had a free Sunday, we invited some sweet friends and headed across the bridge to The Weepi
Have you ever heard someone say that there isn’t anything to do on the Outer Banks? I hear it all the time, people get bored here! It’s kind of mind boggling to me because we truly have so much to do that sometimes I don’t know how we will fit it all in. Jason and I have recently been discussing just how amazing life on the Outer Banks is and how we need to sneak in more date nights to enjoy it all! So, I present to you the first page of our Summer series: Date Like You’re on
If you happened to catch our Community Contributor Post from THE Kellie Flock over a year ago, then you know that the beach is an amazing place for the growth and development of a child. At any age, the shore provides "auditory, vestibular, proprioceptive, and tactile stimulation like no other,” as Kellie puts it! But, with all of that goodness there is tons of room for fear and anxiety and hopefully a little curiosity too! I know that my own children have had moments where
I'm convinced that life on the Outer Banks is the best way to raise a family. We seem to have found this perfect pocket of beautiful beaches meets rustic farmland and I know that I'm not the only one that feels incredibly blessed to live here. Over the weekend we had incredible weather and managed to sneak in a beach day on Saturday and on Sunday we headed to Point Harbor to pick strawberries. I'm telling you, we've got the best of both worlds here on the Outer Banks! Strawbe
Happy Weekend, Mamas! We're kicking off our Summer blog series "Friday Libations" with this delicious and low-cal treat from Dasani Sparkling Water!
If there is one thing that I have been LOVING lately it is infused water. I bought this Fruzer from Amazon last month and I've been tossing it into my water every morning with raspberries or grapefruit. But by Friday night, I'm longing for a real happy hour on the back deck with Jason while we watch the kids run around in the y
In honor of National Puppy Day, we are celebrating our sweet and wild puppy, Jetty! Our Labradoodle, Jetty is the king of catching surf and talking long walks but I was seriously struggling to get out and about with him when I was with our girls. It's so hard to push the jogging stroller and hold a leash and pick up the Sippy cup that Eloise throws every eleven seconds! Enter SportLeash! This leash was a game changer for me! With the hands-free design I am able to clip the le
People always ask me why I take vacations when I already live at the beach and honestly 10 years ago, I would have asked myself the same question. We were just about to make the move to the Outer Banks and since Corolla was always our go-to vacation spot we couldn't imagine that we would really go anywhere else on vacation. But shortly after our first year we were itching to take a vacation. It's funny how quickly this felt like home and became cluttered with the everyday lif
When we originally booked our trip to Disney World we thought we would need 3 days to see everything so we booked a long weekend. We really did have the BEST day ever in Disney's Magic Kingdom. You can read a little bit about that trip and our shoestring Disney budget a post back.
We just realized that after the park experience and after Disney Springs, we just had enough of the commercial world and we were really craving our tranquil life by the sea. On a whim, we decided t
School is officially closed tomorrow and we haven't even seen a snow flurry yet! Oh my heavens do I looooove the south! I'm telling ya, this is the way to live! :)
Not only have I noticed many fellow Outer Banks mamas posting about our pending snow storm this week but I have talked to dozens of clients this week who have said to me, "Oh no! What do you do at the beach when it snows?"
So of course, I am thinking the exact same thing here! What in the world can we do with
When my husband and I first moved here we found the cutest little 3 bedroom house. It was an adorable blue single family on a one way street and of course, it was close to the right school. We loved the space, had plenty of storage and at 1200 square feet we felt like we had more than enough room for our family of three. Then we had Penelope. Somehow within the first year of her life we felt like that house was closing in on us. With the addition of one more child in the hous
I don’t know about you guys but I have been in the mood to break out my Christmas decor since we walked in the door from Trick or Treating on Halloween. I’m just ready! Usually I don’t even think about Christmas decorations until Thanksgiving passes but I am seeing so many more friends and family members decorating early this year so I know I'm not alone in this! I’m feeling like maybe it’s the current state of the universe that has made us all so ready for the joy that the h
I’ll be the first to admit it. I moved to the Outer Banks seven years ago to get away from the hustle. I high tailed it out of suburbia and never looked back because I wanted our kids to grow up in an environment with nature around every corner, less stress and materialism and beautiful weather. I wanted these kiddos to see the ocean every single day as a reminder that there is a big huge world out there and that it’s theirs for the taking! So honestly, when a waterpark was b
Card games. I hate them. I'm not good at them and I always lose. When I was a kid, I remember cheating in Go Fish. For whatever reason, even if I needed a card, I would never Go Fish. I just skipped that part of the game. Of course, I'd end up losing miserably because of this. You would think I would have learned by now... For the most part, I have always felt like I was a pretty put together person. I mean, I wear leggings as pants on occasion and I rarely blow-dry my hair.
It's winter on the Outer Banks and y'all.. I am bored! There, I said it. Usually, I love snuggling in and enjoying the downtime with my family. This year is no different in that regard. I love the quietness that takes over the beach and the crisp air that smells like a bonfire. I love love love having extra time to snuggle our littlest baby and having plenty of time to train our puppy to be the best dog ever. I love winter here. But I am desperate for a creative outlet! This
If You Want to Hear God Laugh, Tell Him Your (Birth)Plan. I love birth stories. I mean, I really really love birth stories and I don’t think that they are told nearly often enough. So, in honor of our sweet Eloise Rose turning 1 month old, I’ve decided to pen her’s here. It was absolutely my most whirlwind, miraculous, humbling birth and journey and I think it needs to be told. I’ll just say right here that if you are squeamish in the least or don’t find childbirth to be tot
