Distant thunderstorms late last night and the steady light-rain means that our family all slept great last night and we're up early and heading out to the 11th annual KidFest on Roanoke Island this morning. This is one of our favorite activities so if you're looking for something awesome to do this morning, make sure to head down to Festival Park and enjoy this FREE event with us, put on by the Children & Youth Partnership for Dare County.
Yesterday I overheard a conversati
Happy Weekend, Mamas! And a fun weekend it is ahead with Cinco de Mayo and sunshine in the forecast! This is the perfect low-cal treat from Dasani Sparkling Water!
If you're like me and love a good margarita but hate the sugar that they are filled with, this margarita is for you and it's sure to be a hit at your Cinco de Mayo celebration! First things first, if you like salt on your margs then start with pouring salt on a flat surface and wetting the rim of your glass with
I'm convinced that life on the Outer Banks is the best way to raise a family. We seem to have found this perfect pocket of beautiful beaches meets rustic farmland and I know that I'm not the only one that feels incredibly blessed to live here. Over the weekend we had incredible weather and managed to sneak in a beach day on Saturday and on Sunday we headed to Point Harbor to pick strawberries. I'm telling you, we've got the best of both worlds here on the Outer Banks! Strawbe
Happy Weekend, Mamas! We're kicking off our Summer blog series "Friday Libations" with this delicious and low-cal treat from Dasani Sparkling Water!
If there is one thing that I have been LOVING lately it is infused water. I bought this Fruzer from Amazon last month and I've been tossing it into my water every morning with raspberries or grapefruit. But by Friday night, I'm longing for a real happy hour on the back deck with Jason while we watch the kids run around in the y
In honor of National Puppy Day, we are celebrating our sweet and wild puppy, Jetty! Our Labradoodle, Jetty is the king of catching surf and talking long walks but I was seriously struggling to get out and about with him when I was with our girls. It's so hard to push the jogging stroller and hold a leash and pick up the Sippy cup that Eloise throws every eleven seconds! Enter SportLeash! This leash was a game changer for me! With the hands-free design I am able to clip the le
People always ask me why I take vacations when I already live at the beach and honestly 10 years ago, I would have asked myself the same question. We were just about to make the move to the Outer Banks and since Corolla was always our go-to vacation spot we couldn't imagine that we would really go anywhere else on vacation. But shortly after our first year we were itching to take a vacation. It's funny how quickly this felt like home and became cluttered with the everyday lif
If there is one awesome way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with the little ones, it’s with Kindness Rocks! We are absolutely loving the Outer Banks Rocks idea and we have been painting rocks left and right. Penny decided that she wanted to use some St. Patty’s Day colors and paint rocks to hide around town. The idea of kindness rocks is spreading like wildfire! By painting rocks and hiding them within plain sight, people are reminded to be kind to one another when they see th
My neighbors and I have this on-going group text about the NBC television show This Is Us. We all watch it and then discuss it usually with a plethora of cry face emoji’s and lengthened nooooo’s! We have also discussed how this show makes just about everyone on planet earth ugly cry with the exception of me. Seriously, I haven’t shed a tear since the first season when they lose one of their triplets and then adopt Randall. That episode had my cheeks tear streaked for sure! Bu
It's no secret that most of my favorite Outer Banks events involve food but with so many incredible local restaurants, that's easy to understand! We especially love Taste of the Beach because we get to enjoy our favorite restaurants and taste some things that aren't usually on their menus! Since we usually roll with 3 kiddos, we are always so excited when events are kid friendly! In the years past we have hired a babysitter so that we can attend some of the events but this ye
In an 8.6 mile stretch we have 5 major grocery stores. FIVE! This is a little tiny sandbar with a ridiculous amount of grocery options! That number doesn't even include Winks, Stop N' Shop and our international food markets. If you ask me, the big chains need a little friendly competition around here!
A few weeks ago I was at Harris Teeter in Kitty Hawk and couldn't find a single apple that wasn't bruised, moldy or wrinkled. Deflated, I walked to the strawberries and came
If you're anything like me you are grateful for this February sunshine that we have had here on the Outer Banks. It has felt so amazing to feel the sun warm my skin after a few months of frigid temps! But these warm days are also the reason why I am reaching for the sunscreen and with tiny humans I'm pretty selective on which brand we slather them down with! Being a beach mom, one of the most frequently asked questions I get is about sun safety and with new sunscreens hitting
Yes, you read that right! Eloise moves out! And it's happening this week! We're officially kicking the little bugger out of our room which means we are transitioning her into Penny's old room. We have kept all three of our babies in our bedroom for their first year with their crib set up close enough that I can reach them in the middle of the night and nurse them without having to walk my sleepy-head down the hall. Shocking news...I've jumped up to the demands of each of our
I might sound a bit like a broken record but when it comes to giving gifts, the Outer Banks is THE BEST place to shop! So with Valentine's Day on the horizon, I'm rounding up the best local gifts for the girl in your life. The best part is that you can shop right here on the beach!
1. Lovie's for your LOVIE!
I'm telling you, these ladies have changed my salon experience. They are ALL incredibly kind, talented and uplifting. On top of ALL of that, they're offering a kille
When we originally booked our trip to Disney World we thought we would need 3 days to see everything so we booked a long weekend. We really did have the BEST day ever in Disney's Magic Kingdom. You can read a little bit about that trip and our shoestring Disney budget a post back.
We just realized that after the park experience and after Disney Springs, we just had enough of the commercial world and we were really craving our tranquil life by the sea. On a whim, we decided t
Ahh… Disney World. Most moms have priced it out at least once in their lives and like me, looked at the price tag for a 3-4 day trip for the family and slammed the laptop shut with an exaggerated rolling of the eyes. It’s absurd. I have local neighbors who told me about taking their family to Disney World and couldn’t believe that they spend $3000 on a theme park and I’ve gotta say, I’m right there with them. It’s really borderline offensive to me that a theme park can cost s
We're one week (and change) into the New Year! A full week! 1/52nd of the way through 2018! If that doesn't shock you and show you just how fast time flies then I don't know what will.
I'm still over here trying to set my goals for 2018.
Business goals and weight and cardio training... yep sure! I'm there with all of you... I've set goals on how to deep clean my house top to bottom in 14 days... Goals on the exact number of times that I can get the entire family to chu
School is officially closed tomorrow and we haven't even seen a snow flurry yet! Oh my heavens do I looooove the south! I'm telling ya, this is the way to live! :)
Not only have I noticed many fellow Outer Banks mamas posting about our pending snow storm this week but I have talked to dozens of clients this week who have said to me, "Oh no! What do you do at the beach when it snows?"
So of course, I am thinking the exact same thing here! What in the world can we do with
Here on the Outer Banks our kiddos are gifted with a full two weeks off of school for their Winter holiday break. Don't get me wrong, I really do love having the kids home for a long break and I really love getting to stay in cozy sweatpants a little bit longer each morning but with limited indoor activities here on the beach going stir-crazy is a given. Insert crafting. My little Penny is super creative and she honestly is happier and better behaved when she has a creative o
When my husband and I first moved here we found the cutest little 3 bedroom house. It was an adorable blue single family on a one way street and of course, it was close to the right school. We loved the space, had plenty of storage and at 1200 square feet we felt like we had more than enough room for our family of three. Then we had Penelope. Somehow within the first year of her life we felt like that house was closing in on us. With the addition of one more child in the hous
